After my hysterectomy, I experienced insomnia because of the change in hormones. Rather than immediately turn to hormone replacement therapy, I tried natural herbal remedies and other products that help with sleeping. I read that white noise helped with sleeping problems and began to read reviews for sound machines. Now my sound machine is on every night and sometimes during the day when I want to relax and unwind. Below are several sound machines for sleeping that have great reviews and good results.
Chamomile – 75 mg. You may be more familiar with this herb, which is related to the daisy family. Be advised if you suffer from hayfever, you may be allergic to this plant. It is well known for its calming properties and is commonly found in herbal teas that are used as a relaxer.
If able make your room as dark and quite as possible as this contributes to meletonin which is a natural natural sleep aid. Don’t leave the TV or radio on….if night sounds (traffic, etc) are a concern, consider buying a “white noise” machine, which usually effectively cancels out these distractions.

Keep your bedroom quiet, dark, and comfortable. Use earplugs, window blinds, an electric blanket–whatever it may be–to create an ideal sleeping environment.
I know what it’s like to not be able to get the sleep I needed. And when I finally did get to sleep late at night, I would toss and turn the whole time I was sleep. It really took a toll on me and I didn’t have any energy and I didn’t feel like doing anything when I woke up.
For occasional problems sleeping, you may want to try a melatonin based sleep aid. This is not a substitute for all of the remedies mentioned above, but will get you through those times when a good night’s sleep is important.
